Year 6 Boys' Football July 2024

Last Friday, our Year 6 boys’ football team participated in the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership competition.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘In a pulsating final, our boys succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Jerome Primary School.  The results outlined below reflect one of the best football team performances from Five Ways pupils in recent years:

Drew: 1

Goals Scored: 13     Goals Conceded: 1

The magnificent attitude, effort and team work demonstrated by our Year 6 boys augurs well for their future football careers at secondary school level.’

Year 3 and Year 4 Mixed Football Team February 2024

On 29th February, our Year 3/4 mixed football team participated in a 7 a-side competition at Rugeley Leisure Centre.  Playing in a league of 7 teams, our team finished with the following record:

PLAYED: 6, WON: 2, DRAW: 3 and LOST: 1.

This resulted in our team qualifying for the semi-finals against Henry Chadwick Primary from Hill Ridware.  The match finished 0–0 in normal time.  In the resulting penalty shoot-out, we lost unfortunately, at the sudden death stage!  Well done to all pupils who took part. Special mention to goalscorers, Logan W and Jack S.

Year 5 and Year 6 Girls' Football News Janaury 2024

On 26th January, our Year 5/6 girls’ football team participated in the first round of the U-11’s Staffordshire County Cup competition.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Against an experienced Perton Middle School team, our girls maintained an excellent attitude, in terms of team spirit, effort and application, throughout the match.  After limited practice sessions, this was only the second time that our girls’ football squad had played together in a competitive match this season.  However, with such strong inherent values, our girls’ football squad can only look forward to further footballing opportunities and events.’  Well done everyone!

Year 5 and Year 6 Boys' Football News Janaury 2024

On 19th January, our Year 5/6 boys’ football team participated in the second round of the U-11’s Staffordshire County Cup competition.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Against a strong Codsall Middle School team, our boys gave an excellent account of themselves throughout the whole of the match.  The final scoreline was not a true reflection of two evenly matched sides.  Special mention to goalkeeper Oscar M for some excellent saves, a resolute defensive display from Joe I, and a non-stop combative midfield performance from Harry S.’  Well done everyone!

Year 5 and Year 6 Boys' Football News November 2023

On 23rd November, our Year 5/6 boys’ football team participated in the first round of the Under - 11 Staffordshire County Cup competition, against Glenthorne Primary School from Cheslyn Hay.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Our boys edged a pulsating encounter 3 – 2 in extra-time.  A slow start on a difficult pitch saw Glenthorne take an early 1 – 0 lead.  However, bolstered by some outstanding saves from Oscar M, we witnessed a much stronger performance in the second half from our boys.  2 goals from Harry S and one goal from Bradley B saw the team march on into the next round.’  Well done everyone!

Target Run Nerf Event. October 2023

I am pleased to inform you that 8 of our KS2 pupils participated in an inaugural Target Run / Nerf Throw event at Rugeley Leisure Centre on 25th October. Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Split into two teams of four, our pupils demonstrated excellent archery, throwing and shooting skills when faced with various target challenges throughout the morning.’ All pupils performed extremely well! Year 5 and Year 6 Girls' Football. 10th October 2023

On 10th October, our Year 5/6 Girls’ football team represented Five Ways in a mini tournament at Staffordshire University Academy.  Mr Doughty wrote, ‘The team played 3 fantastic group matches against Hob Hill, Croft and John Bamford, drawing 2 of those games and winning the other 1-0 thanks to a well taken goal from Charlotte Gray.  The team qualified with 5 points from the group games, but narrowly lost out 1-0 to Etching Hill in the semi-final.  Our Year 5/6 girls did superbly well and should feel extremely proud of their performance against very tough opponents.’  Well done, girls!

Year 5 and Year 6 Boys' Football. 5th October 2023

Our Year 5/6 boys’ football team started the season by winning the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership 6 a-side football competition at Staffordshire University Academy on Thursday 5th October.  This is an amazing result!  Mr Redpath wrote,

‘Outstanding individual goals and an encouraging all-round squad performance saw our boys qualify for the next round of the competition against respective district winners from across Staffordshire.’  Well done boys!

County Summer Games at Keele University! June 2023

On 22nd June, some of our Cross Country teams participated in the County Summer Games at Keele University.  With fields of over 80 runners in each race, our athletes produced some outstanding results.  Congratulations to all of the pupils who took part.  The proud tradition of cross country continues at Five Ways! Well done everyone.

Year 3 Girls:  Millie Smith, Florry Grosvenor, Esmae Horvath and Isabella Holland. Special mention to Florry who came 12th and Isabella who came 15th overall.

Year 3 Boys:  Daniel Coppage, Roman Graham and Huw Wright.  Special mention to Huw who came 8th overall.

Year 4 Boys:  Harrison Davis Yarnall, Logan Kelly, Harry Stewart and Logan Jillings.  Special mention to Harry who came 12th overall.

Year 5 Girls:  Isabelle Smith, Erin Houlston, Poppy Roberts and Jessica Askey.  Special mention to Erin who came 13th overall.

Year 5 and 6 Girls' Football Team May 2023

I am pleased to share with you news about our Year 5/6 Girls’ Football Team, who took part in a match against Etching Hill.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘A friendly sporting rivalry was resumed against Etching Hill Primary Academy on 12th May.  Our Year 5/6 girls’ football team played out a 1-1 draw in an enjoyable match for all players and spectators.  Special mention to Olivia Adams for a well-taken goal, and goalkeeper Holly Howard for her penalty save.’  Well done everyone!

Year 5 and 6 Athletics April 2023

Representing Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership as district winners, I am pleased to inform you that our Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics team participated in the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent School Games County Final at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Stoke-on-Trent on Tuesday 18th April.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Competing against a high quality field, our athletes more than held their own in the running, jumping and throwing events.  Recorded times and distances were down to fine margins, and our team finished in an outstanding 7th position overall.’  Well done eveyone!

Year 4 Football March 2023

It was the first match of the season for our Year 4 boys’ football team, when they faced Etching Hill Primary Academy on 24th March.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Although they finished on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line, our Year 4 footballers showed encouraging glimpses of good team play, particularly in the second half.  Special mention to Charlie Knott for his well-taken penalty, and Bradley Blakemore for his excellent strike and goal from outside the penalty area.’  The team were as follows: Back row (left to right): Logan Kelly, Jenson Dalloway, Bradley Blakemore, Ethan Gittings, Finley Betteridge, Harrison Davis-Yarnall.  Front row (left to right): Ben Lund, Brody Powell, Connor Gilbert, Charlie Knott.  Well done everyone!

Year 3 Football March 2023

In their first ever football match for Five Ways, our Year 3 players demonstrated an excellent attitude both on and off the pitch.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘After a bright start, two breakaway goals and a controversial third goal ultimately cost our Year 3 football team in their match against Etching Hill on 17th March.  Special mention to goalkeeper Jenson Wall, who gave a player of the match performance, including several excellent saves throughout the match.’

Cross Country - February 2023

I am pleased to report that our Year KS2 cross-country teams took part in the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership competition at Staffordshire University Academy on 28th February.  From the trial races at Five Ways, a team of 4 girls and a team of 4 boys were selected from each year group.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘Excellent support from parents, a testing course, and squalid weather conditions saw all our individual runners from all our teams give their absolute best in terms of competitive attitude and effort.  Special mention to Huw Wright who won the Year 3 boys’ race, and Erin Houlston who won the Year 5 girls’ race.’ Well done to everyone who took part – you were amazing!

Sporting Success!

I am proud to announce that our Year 5 and Year 6 Boys’ and Girls’ Sportshall Athletics team made a triumphant return to the sporting arena on 3rd November at Staffordshire University Academy.  They were crowned winners of the Cannock and Rugeley School Sport Partnership competition with a superb all-round team performance in the various running, jumping and throwing events.  The same athletes can now look forward to taking part in the Staffordshire County Competition at Fenton Manor Leisure Centre, Stoke-on-Trent on 18th April.

Y5/Y6 Boys' Football News! January 2023

The Year 5 and 6 Boys Football team took part in a County Cup Match on 26th January. Mr Redpath reported, ‘A slow start and a bizarre own goal ultimately cost our Year 5 and 6 Boys Football team in their county cup match against Perton MS.  Although our boys eventually grew into the game, with shots hitting the crossbar and post, and Mason Gray converting a well-taken penalty, the stats still show a 2-1 defeat after extra-time.’Our sports teams continue to strive for sporting success this term with upcoming competitions in indoor athletics, cross country and  further football matches.

Y5/Y6 Boys' Football News! November 2022

I am pleased to report that on the 10th November, our Year 5/6 boys’ football team won against Landywood Primary school.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘In a nerve-shredding penalty shoot-out, Brodie O’Grady coolly smashed home the decisive goal, as our Year 5/6 boys won their opening county cup match against Landywood.  With the scores level at 2-2 at the end of normal time – thanks to goals from Joe Ingry and Brodie O’Grady.  The match headed towards a classic penalty shoot-out.  On top of Brodie scoring the winning penalty, we had Elliot Maritza with an excellent block/save from their opening penalty taker.  Captain Zach Hodgetts and Vice-captain Mason Gray also stepped up to the pressure plate with their confidently taken penalties.  Well done boys!’  

Y5/Y6 Girls' Football News! November 2022

On 3rd November, our Year 5/6 girls’ football team kicked off their season with a first round county cup match against Oakridge Primary from Stafford.  Mr Redpath wrote, ‘In defeat, our girls maintained a superb team spirit throughout the match and kept going up to the final whistle.  Special mention to Erin Houlston who bagged her first goal of the season.’  The team were as follows: Olivia Adams, Evie Kelsall, Ava Saunders, Poppy Roberts, Maisie Maguire, Macy Tranter, Erin Houlston, Emelia Florey, Mia Taylor and Firdaous Ahmed.  Well done girls!

Congratulations Jack

On behalf of the school community, I would like to congratulate Jack Harris, who is in Year 6 in Mrs Lindsay’s class.  During the summer break, Jack played in the Robert Rock junior golf tour at the Fairmont in St Andrews, and came 1st in his age group for the under 12’s.  This was a 3 day competition over 27 holes with 30 children from all over the country competing. 

This is an incredible achievement!  Well done Jack! We are all very proud of you.

 

Cricket Success May 2022

I am pleased to inform you that some of our KS2 pupils have represented Five Ways recently in cricket matches against other local schools. Mr Redpath wrote, ‘After only 2 practice sessions,our Year 3/4 cricket team produced an excellentall-round performance in a competition at Rugeley Cricket Club on 12th May.  Cool batting, bowling and fielding conditions saw our Year 3/4 team win 2 matches and narrowly lose 2 matches.  Our 2 wins came against Etching Hill Primary and HenryChadwick Primary.  The 2 losses, by 1 run and 8 runs respectively, came against Littleton Green Primary and St Luke’s Primary.  Special mention to Corban Maunder for 2 outstanding catches, Holly Howard for her excellent bowling technique and a “Ben Stokes cameo performance” from Jake Davidson, who hit the ball to all corners of the pitch!’  This is wonderful news and one which all pupils involved should be very proud of.    The Y3/4 cricket team were as follows: back row - left to right - Oscar Halley, Corban Maunder, Jake Davidson, Holly Howard.  Front Row - left to right - Harry Holmes, Harrison Davis-Yarnell, Logan Jillings, Dylan Lesniak.  Well done everyone!

Mr Redpath wrote, ‘After only 1 squad trial practice, our Year 5/6 cricket team produced an excellent performance against high quality opposition at Cannock and Rugeley Cricket Club last Thursday.  With 8 teams entering the competition, our cricketers finished in overall 4th position having won 2 matches and lost 2 matches.  The excellent sporting attitude of our cricket team was reflected in the awarding of 10 merits to Harry Morgan by a member of staff from The John Bamford Primary.  The Y5/6 cricket team were as follows: left to right – Zach Hodgetts, Jess Edwards, Ruby Dyke, Jayden Roberts, Iwan Wright, Mason Gray, Harry Morgan, Ellis Fielding-Stokes.  Well done everyone!  You are a credit to Five Ways!
