Katie's Garden - 31/08/2023

< Back to the news

On Monday 10th July, pupils started using the brand new ‘Pirate Ship’ that has been installed in Katie’s Garden.  This development has now made the garden area more accessible and enjoyable for the pupils and will be used all year round. Parents may be aware that the memorial garden is dedicated to the loving memory of Katie, who was a pupil at Five Ways some years ago.  Katie sadly passed away following a serious illness, and a tree was planted in her memory in the garden next to the KS2 Hall.  The willow tree is still in place and compliments the other plants growing in the boarders around our new pirate ship.

Katie’s Garden will still remain a memorial to Katie, as well as her tree and a memorial bench.  We are in the final stages of commissioning a new plaque in memory of Katie, to be installed, so that everyone understands the importance of the garden and play area.  We hope all pupils from Nursery to Year 6 will enjoy using the pirate ship and I am sure you will agree that it serves as a very fitting tribute in Katie’s memory.
